2 Socks on 1 Circular. Truely is Magic!

Sunday, April 30th, 2006

I have been crocheting for so long that I can barely remember learning how. When I learned to knit people would say the same thing that I would say when teaching someone to crochet. “Try it like this, experiment with other techniques and you’ll find the method you like best”. We are too, too smart.

I prefer my slippers crocheted and my socks knitted. I have tried just about every method of knitting socks and there are lots of them! I LOVE, LOVE to knit 2 socks at one time on 1 circular needle. I see why it is called the magic loop. As a matter of fact, I very rarely if ever, use DPNS. While others swear by them, I find I am slow and awkward. I also suffer from SSS. Commonly known as “Second Sock Syndrome”. It’s a debilitating handicap in which the sufferer thinks that when one has been completed they are through knitting. This wouldn’t be bad if I only had one foot.
I really like toe up and I like short rows for both toe and heel. Windy Johnson has written the best tutorial on Knitty.

I am almost finished with my latest pair. This is a super simple pattern from Sensational Socks- one of the best sock books ever written. It looks like a cable but isn’t! They will definitely benefit from blocking. They look a little like teal raisins right now.

Stitch Diva Hobo Bag

Wednesday, April 26th, 2006

I am finished crocheting the Hobo Bag. I had to wait for my Bedazzler to arrive. Oh, you heard it right my BEDAZZLER. I haven’t been this exicted since the Giants played the A’s in the world seires. Bad anaolgy. We all know what happened then! (the earthquake). Back to the bag. It’s still in pieces waiting to be bedazzled, sewn up and lined.

She Thinks She’ll Keep Him

I can’t believe in my last post I referred to “sun”. We here in Nor Cal are experiencing more rain than I can remember for this time of year. It’s taking its toll on farming and flooding in many areas.

The constant rain has contributed to a really uncharacteristic bout of the blues! I previously posted that my office is closing and if I want to stay with the company it looks like I would have endure a horrific commute. We (Mr. Right and I) have decided that the quality of life is more important than corporate employment. With this comes the people part. Missing the people I have worked with for a very long time. Missing the culture we’ve created. No matter what happens this will never be the same. This combined with the physical effects of the weather, a raging case of PMS and my fish, Earl died was about all I could handle.

I have never suffered from chronic depression. My heart goes out to those who do. During this brief period I think the hardest part was the loss of hope. Those who deal with this chronically are heroes in my book.

Instead of “tough talking” me or reminding me of how much I really have that makes me happy (I already know this stuff already) -his usual MO when I complain- Mr. Right was kind and supportive. He took every on task and decision I had to do or make, gave me space and really cared for me. The man who NEVER sends me flowers did just that. This sooo makes it worth all of the times I wanted to strangle him.

I am feeling much better. I don’t know about you but a new project really does it for me! I love planning (even the math!) the design. Even if I am using someone else’s I usually tweak it or modify it. I love selecting the colors, texture, fabric, yarn……. With all of that said my new project doesn’t have any of that! I LOVED the Colinette Flapjack Throw from “Toast & Marmalade” since the first time I saw it in a magazine. I am going to crochet this puppy without changing as stitch! So she says…. I found the Colinette “Prism” yarn for less than half the usual price from one of my favorite eBay sellers and it’s on the way! How’s this baby for a Granny Square? My hook is poised and waiting. Now watch it get 100 degrees with melting sunshine before it gets here.
